Perry Groves told talkSPORT that Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho shouldn’t be able to criticise players because he’s ‘never played at the top level’ following his NASA comments.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Mourinho claimed nobody is going to discuss ‘rocket science with the guys from NASA’, as he tried to hit back at those discussing football with him given what he has achieved in the game.

Mourinho, who has had a trophy-laden career from winning the Champions League at Inter to returning to Chelsea and lifting another Premier League trophy, has been heavily criticised this season at Spurs.

And in typical Mourinho fashion, you expect him to come out fighting, which he has done.

But following Mourinho’s comments, former Arsenal man Groves issued this putdown of the Portuguese coach.

“What he is saying that nobody can have an opinion on football apart from people who have managed at the top level,” said Groves.

“So, with that logic, he shouldn’t be able to criticise players who have played at the top level because he has never played at the top level.”

TalkSport host Sam Matterface responded by saying: “You went there. You went there!”

Groves added: “No, I am just saying by his logic. Every time you go and watch a film. We don’t know anything about film production, or theatre or acting – so, we are not allowed to have an opinion on anything.”

This Tottenham team was in decline towards the back end of Mauricio Pochettino’s reign, but the squad wasn’t refreshed enough to move it forward.

That’s proven by the backline, especially at centre-back, with the only real notable introduction has been Joe Rodon and he is a youngster who was purchased from Swansea.

Given how Mourinho is perceived and how he doesn’t shy away from a confrontation, it would be a surprise if he’s still Tottenham boss this time next season because it does seem as though he is a ticking time bomb in North London.
