Brentford striker Ivan Toney has raved about Liverpool central defender Virgil van Dijk in The Times.
Toney has named the former Celtic star as the best player he has come up against so far in the Premier League.
The Bees played out a 3-3 draw with Liverpool at home in the Premier League back in September.
Toney played well for the promoted club and provided an assist in the Premier League match.
Van Dijk did not have a particularly good game on a personal level, but the Dutchman did stop one clear goal for Brentford.
Toney told The Times about facing Van Dijk: “Strong, quick, good on the ball.
“It’s crazy, he can do everything. Sometimes, when he smashes you, you want to smash him back but it’s like, it’s Van Dijk here.
“You could tell he was one of the best defenders in the world: his swagger, his aura and persona on the pitch. Being a Liverpool fan, it was enjoyable coming up against him.”

Making an impression
Even Van Dijk would admit that the match against Brentford was not one of his best games.
Yet Toney was impressed.
That shows just good the Dutchman, who earns £220,000 per week as salary, is.
Even on a relatively bad day, Van Dijk is class.
Liverpool spent £75 million on the Dutchman back in January 2018, and it has proved to be money well spent.
Van Dijk is one of the best players in the Premier League and in the world.
For Liverpool to win the Premier League and the Champions League this season, the 30-year-old will have to be on top form throughout.
