Peter Schmeichel says Gabriel Jesus has ‘sent a signal’ to the rest of the Premier League after he scored his first goal of the new season following Arsenal’s win over Manchester United.
Gabriel Jesus and Declan Rice down Manchester United
The Brazil international has been in the treatment room since pre-season, but he came off the bench on Sunday to put the cherry on top of Arsenal’s cake.
Declan Rice scored the decisive goal in stoppage-time, but legendary goalkeeper Schmeichel thinks that it’s Gabriel Jesus, who teams across the Premier League, will now be ‘scared’ of, as he told Premier League Productions (03/09/23 at 7:00 pm).
Eddie Nketiah has been the man to lead the line for Mikel Arteta during the two periods Jesus has been out injured since signing for the club.
But many would agree that the 26-year-old, when he is fit, is the starting number nine for this Premier League title-chasing team.
Either way, with Rice scoring his first goal for Arsenal and getting a dose of ‘confidence’ with that goal, Schmeichel thinks that Jesus will be feeling the same.

“When you talk about Declan Rice getting a lot of confidence from that goal, that goal he scores, coming back from injury, it’s going to send signals to the Premier League now,” said Schmeichel.
“Other teams are going to be a bit scared of that now.”

Underrated Gabriel Jesus
Many look towards the goal tally of Jesus when the former Manchester City star is a much better player than his goalscoring record suggests.
The likes of Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli can sing and dance around Jesus because of the spaces he opens up for his teammates and his movement off the ball.
An underrated player in this Arsenal side, if he can start on a regular basis this season, then it will really increase the club’s chances of winning the Premier League title.
