Arsenal beat Leicester City over the weekend and there’s no doubt as to who the Man of the Match was.
The Gunners’ 2-0 win may have looked comfortable on paper, but if it wasn’t for their goalkeeper, things could have gone very differently.
Indeed, Aaron Ramsdale put in one of the best goalkeeping performances you’re likely to ever see, and it’s one that caught the eyes of the wider footballing world.
Ian Wright watched the game at the Match of the Day offices in Salford as he prepared for that evening’s broadcast, and he says that the entire office clapped Ramsdale when he made the world-class save from James Maddison’s free-kick.
What’s been said?
Wright shared on the Wrighty’s House Podcast how the Match of the Day offices reacted to Ramsdale’s save.
“Can I be totally honest, the save he made, you should have seen it at the Match of the Day offices, everybody was clapping, they were clapping, it was amazing. I need to get a T-shirt of that. You know what was cool about it as well. He said he’d been with England and he thought James Maddison was going to go on his side,” Wright said.

Deserved an ovation
The Match of the Day offices exploded in applause for Ramsdale’s save, and we can imagine there were many pubs and living rooms around the offices that did exactly the same.
It was the sort of moment that can define a career. Much like David Seaman’s save against Sheffield United all of those years ago or Gordon Banks’ against Pele in 1970, this is a moment that won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
Ramsdale has certainly proven to everyone at Arsenal that he’s a top-class goalkeeper.
