Jamie Carragher blasted Hugo Lloris and stated ‘you should do better’ after his error-prone afternoon during Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday, as he told Sky Sports (23/10/22 at 5:10 pm).

The first moment of madness from Tottenham’s goalkeeper came when he rushed out of his goal, he was bullied off the ball by Callum Wilson on the edge of the penalty area, before the Newcastle striker kept his composure to put the ball into the back of the net from outside of the box.

The home fans were getting pretty restless at how Spurs were playing, as Miguel Almiron then pounced on a Lloris error when he tried to play out from the back, just before the end of the first half.

That error from Lloris saw Clement Lenglet chasing shadows because Almiron ghosted past the Barcelona loanee like he wasn’t there, before doubling his side’s lead.

Harry Kane did pull a goal back for Spurs in the second half, but it wasn’t enough as Eddie Howe’s side secured all three points.

Nonetheless, as Almiron’s goal went in today, Carragher was critical of Lloris’ actions and how he was, once again, at fault for his side conceding.

“It comes from Lloris again, it’s not a great pass out wide,” said Carragher. “The goalkeeper throws his arms out again.

“Well, I think you should do better again, Hugo.”

LLORIS’ OLD HABITS

This isn’t new with Lloris and it’s something that has always been part of his game, hence why he has always been a marmite-like figure.

Even during France’s 2018 World Cup final triumph against Croatia, he was making mistakes, so he has done it on a much bigger stage than this.

He may well be the Spurs captain, but given that he will hit 36 at the end of the year, the north London club need to look for a long-term replacement.

And whilst Spurs signed Fraser Forster in the summer, at the end of the day, at 34 and on a free transfer from Southampton, he’s not exactly the answer they are looking for.
