Andros Townsend thinks Tottenham Hotspur’s £25 million transfer for Yves Bissouma is ‘very cheap’, as he told takSPORT on Monday morning.

The Everton winger added that ‘you can’t fault that signing’, as he shared how difficult it is facing up against the defensive-minded midfielder, especially on the counter-attack.

Bissouma enjoyed a successful period at Brighton under Graham Potter’s stewardship where the club progressed from a defensive team under Chris Hughton to a forward-thinking side.

The Mali international was one of the standout performers in a team that didn’t have star-studded players, nor did they splash the cash in the transfer market.

But now Bissouma will be donning Tottenham’s colours and playing Champions League football, as Townsend hailed the club for their transfer masterstroke.

“Bissouma, you can’t fault that signing,” said Townsend. “He’s a top signing and a top player. £25 million, very cheap for the quality that he has.

“Again, I think he had one or two years left on his contract. But a top player. Breaking up the play. Recycling the ball. Playing forward and breaking the lines.

“He is just an animal. When you are trying to counter-attack, then you see Bissouma running towards you, that’s not a sight you want to see. Getting across and putting those tackles in.”

BISSOUMA ONE OF THE SIGNINGS OF THE SUMMER

There are still plenty of transfer deals to be done across the Premier League this summer, with Spurs being one of the busier teams, so far.

But, when the dust has settled, Jim White is shouting down your screen one hour before the deadline hits, and then Bissouma will go down as one of the best purchases of the window.

He could argue that he could get into many top teams in Europe, and given that his contract had 12 months left to run, then the north London outfit have done pretty well to get him on the cheap.

It will be interesting to see if Antonio Conte throws him straight into the deep end because Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur ended the season pretty well.
