Brendan Rodgers has hailed the strength of Tottenham Hotspur’s bench after their win over his Leicester City side yesterday on Sky Sports.

Tottenham won 4-2 over Leicester on the Premier League’s final day, as they sealed their spot in the Europa Conference League for next term.

Tottenham’s winning goals were scored by Gareth Bale, who was brought off the bench late on.

Bale’s introduction swung the match in Spurs’ favour, after Leicester suffered yet more injury problems during the contest.

Wesley Fofana was taken off, with Jonny Evans and Harvey Barnes already sidelined for the contest.

And Rodgers suggested that he was envious with the quality that Tottenham had to bring on yesterday.

“It has been [tough for Leicester]. You see the bench that Tottenham have and what they can bring off the bench if they need to change the game,” Rodgers said.

“It’s bitter disappointment now, but we go away and recover and look to fight again.”

The comments are interesting as Rodgers has been tipped to be one of the leading candidates to take over at Tottenham.

However, despite praising the quality of Spurs’ squad, he came out and once again stated that his desire was to stay at Leicester after yesterday’s game.

That surely must put an end to the rumours that he could be Jose Mourinho’s replacement once and for all.

Despite Tottenham’s apparent abundance of quality, they were still unable to keep up with Rodgers’ Leicester side this term, as the Foxes finished in fifth place and won the FA Cup.
