Callum Wilson has warned Leeds United that their relegation rivals, Newcastle United, are in ‘full steam’, as he told the Footballer’s Football Podcast.
The Newcastle striker added that the recently-sacked Marcelo Bielsa was a ‘top guy’ and it’s ‘typical football’ that Leeds sacked him despite the fact that he did so much for the club.
Whilst Newcastle are now flying under Eddie Howe, it did take him a while to get warmed up in the St James’ Park hotseat, as Jesse Marsch needs a quicker impact at Elland Road.
What the American does or doesn’t do will have an impact on those at Newcastle because of their relegation battle.
Nonetheless, Wilson, who is currently out injured, shared his thoughts on Leeds and the club deciding to sack Bielsa.
“Leeds are always an entertaining side,” said Wilson. “People enjoy watching them and enjoying playing against them because you do get opportunities as a striker.
“But I think you need to be careful. The Geordie boys. The Toon Boys, they are in full steam. I think the manager has done wonders.
“That’s what Leeds are hoping will happen. Bielsa was obviously a top guy.
“He got you there after so many years and to not stand by him just for a little bit of tricky time is typical football, isn’t it?!”

Bielsa was a popular figure at Elland Road, so when the club decided to part ways with him, it would have been a very difficult decision.
For some, the right call was made because they just couldn’t stop losing and conceding goal after goal – Leeds have the worst defence in England’s top-flight.
But, others will feel that Bielsa deserved to see the season out and the new man can’t probably do better than the Argentine because he can’t bring in any new players.
Either way, it’s going to be interesting to see how Marsch fairs in Yorkshire, as his first test is Brendan Rodgers Leicester City.
