Michael Owen said on Premier League Productions that the penalty that Aston Villa conceded against Manchester United was the correct call.

United won 2-1 against Dean Smith’s Villa at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Friday evening.

Bruno Fernandes scored the winning goal in the 61st minute when he found the back of the net from the penalty spot.

The spot kick was awarded to United after Douglas Luiz was adjudged to have committed a foul on Paul Pogba.

It was a controversial incident as it appeared to be a harsh decision, with Pogba appearing to trip himself.

Former United striker Owen believes that the penalty call was the right decision.

Owen said on Premier League Productions: “I think it was a penalty. You know me. I am just not quite sure on a lot of these touches people go down easily this season, but I thought that was enough for a penalty.”

Controversial incident

It was a controversial decision. There was a touch from Luiz, but Pogba did appear to trip himself and went down.
