Marvelous Nakamba has apologised to Aston Villa fans on Twitter.
Aston Villa were dumped out of the EFL Cup on penalties away to European champions Chelsea on Wednesday night.
And Nakamba was one of two Villans who missed from 12 yards – along with Ashley Young.
Dean Smith’s side lost 4-3 in the shootout, meaning that the midfielder’s miss was very costly in the end.
But the player himself shouldered a lot of responsibility and wrote on Twitter afterwards that he was to blame.
But Aston Villa teammate Tyrone Mings was quick to console him on social media.
Here’s how the £25 million defender – who didn’t face the Blues – responded to him.
Brave effort
Having won the Champions League only a few months ago, the West Londoners were big favourites to move into the fourth round of the competition.
But Aston Villa look like having another very decent Premier League season under Smith and they were never going to roll over at Stamford Bridge.
Even when Timo Werner fired the Blues ahead, Villa still looked dangerous and equalised 10 minutes later through Cameron Archer.
But progression wasn’t to be for brave Aston Villa, who are back in league action on Saturday with a tricky trip to Manchester United.
