Andros Townsend told talkSPORT that he is going get ‘battered’ for suggesting that Harry Kane should leave Tottenham for Manchester City.

The Crystal Palace winger, who came through Tottenham’s academy alongside Kane, namechecked the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool fans who would give him stick.

Sky Sports reported in May that Kane, once again, expressed a desire to leave Tottenham, with the likes of Manchester City keen to bring him to the club.

And given that Kane would be ‘guaranteed’ trophies at the Etihad, Townsend thinks it’s only right that he left Tottenham for the Manchester-based club if he were to head for the exit door this summer.

“He will know exactly who wants him and he will be keeping that to himself,” said Townsend. “He wouldn’t have made those comments that he did if there weren’t any solid offers for him.

“There’s only one club that is guaranteed to win trophies. I am going to get battered on social media (if I say who that club is), so I am going to prolong it – and that’s Manchester City.

On why he would get stick for it: “Well, then you have Liverpool fans, Manchester United fans, you have Arsenal fans and you have Spurs fans.

“He wants guaranteed trophies and there’s no one better than Pep Guardiola and Man City if you want guaranteed trophies to go to.”

Who Daniel Levy brings in this summer will have huge bearings on where Kane ends up.

There’s been a clear lack of ambition at the club and it needs refreshing from top to bottom if they are to compete again.

It doesn’t help Tottenham’s cause that they are competing in the newly-formed Europa Conference League, a man of Kane’s qualities and what he has produced this season, he should be nowhere near that league.
