Arsenal loan star Matteo Guendouzi has spoken about his immense pride after scoring his first goal for the France senior squad during this international break.
Speaking to the press via GFFN, the 22-year-old midfielder was awestruck by what he had just done for Les Bleus, with Guendouzi scoring France’s final goal in their 5-0 thrashing of South Africa, with Kylian Mbappe and former Arsenal star Olivier Giroud also on the scoresheet.
Guendouzi joined Olympique Marseille on loan last summer in a deal that is set to become permanent at the end of this season, with Arsenal willing to allow the France international to leave for a relatively cheap transfer fee.
Flourishing in Ligue 1, Guendouzi has had a season to remember with Marseille and now with France, with the midfielder over the moon that he scored his first goal for the reigning world champions in what was a historic night for the youngster.
Guendouzi said when asked about his first-ever goal for France: “It’s a source of immense pride, my first goal with the French team, you dream of moments like these. I will remember it for my whole life, that’s for sure.
The midfielder added: “I’m really very happy, I hope to score many more. I’m proud because it rewards me for the work I’ve been putting in for a long time. I will remember it until the end of my life, this first goal with the French team, that’s for sure.”
Arsenal will be kicking themselves if Guendouzi makes France’s World Cup squad

Arsenal letting Guendouzi go for cheap has been a contentious area of discussion amongst supporters, and given the midfielder’s form for both Marseille and France, there’s a good chance the youngster could be heading to Qatar if he continues this level of performance.
Indeed, such a decision will see Arsenal curse themselves. After all, Guendouzi is ideal for what Mikel Arteta wants in a midfielder this summer, and for the club to let one go and to develop into a top-five international calibre player will be a kick in the teeth for the Gunners.
