Roy Keane blasted Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson for ‘screaming’ as he won a penalty during England’s 2-1 win over Belgium on Sunday at Wembley.

The outspoken TV pundit told ITV (11/10/20 at 10:55 pm) that Henderson shouldn’t have been awarded a penalty during the game.

Belgium were winning the contest 1-0 when referee Tobias Stieler judged that Thomas Meunier pulled the Liverpool captain back from a corner.

But Keane wasn’t having any of it and was especially critical of Henderson for ‘screaming’ just because the opposition player touched him on the shoulder.

“I don’t think it’s a penalty,” Keane told ITV. “He’s barely touched him. How can a player scream when he touches him on the shoulder?

“He’s screaming. You don’t need to scream.”

The on-field referee awarded two penalties during the game, the first to Romelu Lukaku, which was more straight forward because he was hacked down by Eric Dier in the penalty area.

But England’s penalty was more debatable as Marcus Rashford did his job and put the spot-kick away before Gareth Southgate’s side secured all three points in the second half.

From a Liverpool perspective, this was some much-needed minutes under Henderson’s belt and it will be interesting to see whether he starts England’s encounter against Denmark on Wednesday.
