Owen Hargreaves has claimed that goalkeeper Hugo Lloris didn’t deserve to lose as Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, as he told Premier League Productions (19/10/22 at 10:40 pm).
The former England midfielder added that Lloris produced ‘one of his best performances’, making eight saves from Man United’s 28 efforts on their goal.
There weren’t many positives from yesterday’s game for those in the Spurs camp, other than perhaps the skipper himself.
For some, this is becoming a running theme in the so-called bigger games for Antonio Conte’s side because they are starting to prove to be one-sided.
Cite back to their 2-2 draw at Chelsea, when Harry Kane scored a stoppage-time equaliser, then the north London defeat to Arsenal and now last night’s loss.
Either way, one man that Hargreaves wanted to praise was the man between Tottenham’s sticks, who he feels will be ‘disappointed’ by his teammates’ performances.
“That one was a great save (off Marcus Rashford),” said Hargreaves. “The thing is that, when you have a worldie like that, then you don’t deserve to lose.
“He will be disappointed. He’s had one of his best performances, yet they have been beaten quite comfortably.”
REACTION NEEDED BY SPURS
When Spurs lost to Arsenal, they picked themselves up and reacted well to that result and performance.
Perhaps a more crucial week awaits them because it could determine what happens to them in the Champions League.
At the weekend, they will face off against Eddie Howe’s in-form Newcastle United, before another crucial home time against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League.
The Portuguese giants beat Spurs during the reverse fixture, and if the same happens again, then it could prove to be costly because there are very small margins in Group D.
