Danny Murphy told talkSPORT that ‘comparing prices’ of footballers in the transfer market is ‘all about timing’ as he used Tottenham striker Harry Kane and Liverpool’s Mo Salah as examples.
It was suggested to Murphy that Tottenham chairman, Daniel Levy, wouldn’t even consider selling Kane for less than £80 million – the same price Manchester United paid for Harry Maguire.
But during these COVID-hit times and Tottenham’s struggle for a trophy, could someone, somewhere get a lucky hit on the Premier League’s top scorer this season?
Well, not to according to Murphy, who pointed out that Liverpool paid between ‘£30-40 million’ for Salah and comparing prices is ‘all relative to time’.
“I think comparing prices, it’s all relative to time, isn’t it?” said Murphy. “You could say that Liverpool paid what £30 or 40 million for Salah?
“What are you going to do? Compare because of how many goals he scored? You know, you just go on and on with that argument. It’s about timing.
“The other thing is that we don’t know what Kane has got inside of him to cause a problem and to get out because this is his career we are talking about.”

Sunday’s League Cup final defeat doesn’t help matters for Tottenham, especially given that the North London outfit couldn’t even lay a glove on Manchester City.
But, for once, from the perspective of Tottenham fans, the stubborn ways of Levy might just suit them in this scenario.
Never mind Levy potentially selling Kane for less than £100 million, it would be a surprise if he even allows him to leave for another English side.
Moving into a big-money stadium, expressing a continuous desire to win trophies, it would be a serious shot in the foot if Levy allowed Kane to leave this summer, especially to a team in the Premier League.
