Speaking on the All to Play For Podcast, Adebayo Akinfenwa has been discussing Harry Kane’s style of play and the idea that he could be used as a number 10.

The England captain is one of the most creative strikers in world football, he often drops deep and feeds runners who advance beyond him, and his role has really blurred the lines in terms of what his actual position is.

Akinfenwa believes that Kane has the ability to play as a pure number 10, stating that he’s mature enough to be unselfish in such a role.

However, the former striker said that it would be unwise to use him as a number 10, claiming that his current role suits him just fine.

Kane could play midfield

Akinfenwa spoke about Kane and potentially moving position.

“With the best of both worlds he’d be the top goalscorer and the top assister. Ultimately, I think he’s matured enough and scored enough goals where he’d take accolades over being the top scorer right now. I think he’s adapted his game as well. I honestly think you could play him as a number 10, don’t, but that’s what he brings, he can drop into that false nine,” Akinfenwa said.

Interesting

It is an interesting idea to play Kane as a number 10.

He’s one of the best strikers the Premier League has ever seen, but perhaps a move into the midfield would work well at this moment in time.

Not only is he creative enough to play such a role, shifting Kane deeper would also allow Richarlison to be a starter for Spurs off the back of what has been a remarkable World Cup campaign for the Brazilian.

Moving Kane into the midfield may be a very wise move indeed.
