Vincent Kompany has stated ‘you can’t underestimate’ the importance Tottenham transfer target and Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante has for World Cup champions France, as he told Match of the Day.
France did cruise to a 4-1 win over Australia at the FIFA 2022 World Cup on Tuesday, but that was after going a goal down against the Socceroos.
Against teams like Australia, former Premier League defender Kompany isn’t worried about France’s injury-hit squad performing, but he thinks down the line, Kante’s value will showcase itself.

But with France’s players suffering injury after injury, including Paul Pogba and Kante already missing at the heart of their midfield, it will be interesting to see how they fare against the so-called bigger boys.
Kante was perhaps France’s best player at the 2018 World Cup because the 31-year-old’s engine just couldn’t be matched by anyone, as Kompany lauded the player.
“The only thing I am really worried about is the midfield, they (France) really relied on Kante to win that World Cup,” said Kompany. “You can’t underestimate how important he was.
“Not an issue against Australia (Kante’s absence), but going forward, then I am curious to see.”

KANTE’S CONTRACT AT CHELSEA
Whilst Kante tries to return from a persistent injury this season, it needs to be noted that he has less than 12 months on his current contract at Stamford Bridge.
There is talk of the player possibly heading for the exit door, but could he remain in London and possibly sign for Tottenham or Arsenal?
On paper, any team in the world would want to sign the energetic midfielder, but Tottenham’s problem is that he isn’t the answer to their question, whilst Arsenal don’t exactly have a great relationship or record when signing ageing Chelsea players.
