Rio Ferdinand has dismissed the thought that Mo Salah is playing in such a manner for Liverpool because he is only motivated for a new contract, as he told Vibe with Five.

The former defender added that Salah has been doing the business in Liverpool colours for ‘four or five years’.

Both Salah and those in the Anfield boardroom have yet to come to an agreement about a new contract for the Egypt flyer.

Whilst that happens, out on the pitch, he is smoking everyone that comes his way, including scoring 17 Premier League goals this season.

When it was put to Ferdinand that some players turn it on, or add a little extra to the game when they are, either looking for a move or want a new deal, he made it clear that it’s a ‘disrespect’ if that happens.

“If there are players out there doing that, then you don’t deserve to have a career in this beautiful game we love,” said Ferdinand.

“That’s a disrespect. Your levels should be at the highest all the time.

On whether Salah is doing it: “Salah has been on fire for four or five years. You can’t throw that at a man like Salah.”

Liverpool are still in all four competitions and Salah has played a big part in that heading into the final few months of the season.

The Reds will be disappointed if they don’t, at the very least, add one trophy to their cabinet this season.

They can lay down the first marker on Sunday when they lock horns with Chelsea in the League Cup final.

Salah has already scored against the European champions and he will be looking to do so again, especially after the hurt he suffered in the last final he played.
