Liverpool supporters have reacted to Steven Gerrard stating that he has no sentiment ahead of his return to Anfield with Aston Villa this Saturday, as he told Sky Sports.
The Villa boss has won three out of his four games in charge of the Midlands club and the next step is locking horns with his boyhood club in Liverpool.
Villa beat Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City 2-1 on Sunday afternoon and moved into the Premier League’s top ten.
Now, it’s a trip to Merseyside to take on one of the best teams in Europe and a side that has been scoring for fun during this campaign.
Gerrard was asked to share his thoughts on that fixture and this is what he had to say:
On any sentimental thoughts in his head: “None,” said Gerrard. “None at all. I just want to go their to try and win. Try and take what we can.
“For us, we aren’t competing with Liverpool, in terms of the level we are both at currently.
“But, we will certainly go to Anfield and give everything we have got. We took Man City to the wire and I believe we should have taken something out of the game.
“We go their with confidence and belief with three wins out of four and make it as difficult as possible.”

Liverpool supporters have offered a mixed reaction to Gerrard’s claim, as some suggest that they will thump his Villa side at the weekend.
Many have pointed out how it’s odd coming up against their legendary figure and how they will put his Villa side to the sword.
But others have loved his attitude and how they want to, possibly one day, see it in their colours if he becomes their manager down the line.
If Gerrard walks away from Anfield with three points at the weekend, then it would be some statement.
From the Villa side that lost five games on the bounce, Gerrard has transformed the performances and this will be a difficult test for the six-time European champions.
Many will hark back to that quite incredible 7-2 win for Villa against the Reds last season.
Although, that was under a different manager and completely different circumstances given that it was behind-closed-doors.
Nonetheless, here is a selection of Liverpool fans reacting to what Gerrard had to say ahead of his return to Anfield:
