Chris Sutton says he’s been told that Alfredo Morelos wants out of Rangers and he is a player that Steven Gerrard ‘cannot trust’, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live.
Sky Sports recently reported that French outfit, Lille, are keen on Morelos’ signature and that he has ‘agreed personal terms’ with the Ligue 1 side.
The Scottish Premiership campaign begins at the weekend and the last thing Gerrard needs is to lose his star man, and lose him without a viable replacement.
Outspoken pundit, Sutton, praised Morelos for the goals he has scored during these past few seasons, but he was pretty blunt in what he thinks of him otherwise.
“It’s a very difficult decision [in Rangers selling Morelos & the price they sell him for],” Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live. “Tom [English] is right, he has scored 59 goals in the last two seasons, that is unbelievable. That is an unbelievable return. But he’s a problem.
“We have seen over the last couple of seasons, he has his moments. I mention the word trust. You cannot trust him. He came back out of shape, he went back to Columbia, didn’t come back and missed a huge cup game.
“How can Steven Gerrard hang his hat on a player, I believe and I am told, he [Morelos] wants away. So, that’s another issue. Can he [Gerrard] trust him? Can he trust him, if he does stay, to knuckle down?
“But the issue for Rangers is, okay we’ll let him go, but who are you going to get in who is going to give you that goal return which Morelos did do?
“There is always that question in there that he hasn’t done it against Celtic. But in European competition, last year, he was phenomenal in some games. Not just his goals, his link-up play, the way he led the line, so it’s a very, very difficult one for Steve Gerrard that.”

If Morelos is to leave Ibrox then it will be interesting to see what type of fee the Scottish club can secure for his services.
Last January, Morelos would have fetched a pretty tidy fee because he was bang in form and the Gers were on the tails of their rivals.
But it hasn’t gone to plan since. Gerrard’s side missed out on the title and Morelos’ form has dipped quite dramatically.
Added with, in this current coronavirus climate, clubs may find it difficult to cough up money for the top talents, so Rangers may find that the value of their star striker may have reduced even further.
