Scott McTominay told Sky Sports that the referee ‘made a mistake’ to disallow Manchester United a goal during their 3-1 win at Tottenham on Sunday.
The Manchester United midfielder was punished for seemingly fouling Tottenham forward Heung-Min Son in the build-up to their now disallowed opening goal.
Whilst that strike from Edinson Cavani was disallowed, Son would go onto score at the other end to make matters worse, only for the away side to have the last laugh in the second half.
Nonetheless, after the game, McTominay delivered his take on being punished for a goal which he thinks should have stood.
“I am sure there will be a lot of talk about that,” said McTominay. “But the referee’s have to make decisions and that’s part and parcel of the game.
“I am personally not a fan of VAR. But that’s part and parcel of the game we are playing now. So, for us, it was a case of keeping calm.
“It was obviously a goal. The referee had made a mistake. But that happens. Everybody makes a mistake in life.
“At the time, you cannot accept that. It was total injustice as you say. But you have to just get on with the game. You cannot let that dampen the way you are playing.”
Tottenham have to focus their attention back on playing matters because this is potentially turning into another season without Champions League football.
Daniel Levy didn’t move Spurs into a new stadium to compete outside of the top four, but they are seemingly heading that way once again.
And if they miss their mark this season then Spurs may have to wave goodbye to some of their star players.
