‘You aren’t’: Newcastle player says West Ham’s Michail Antonio isn’t quicker or stronger than him

Callum Wilson says West Ham United star Michail Antonio isn’t quicker or stronger than him.

The Newcastle United hitman thinks that if the duo were shoulder to shoulder and challenging for a 50-50 ball, then the outcome would be ’50-50’ and not in favour of Michail Antonio, as he told The Footballers Football Show.

Many would probably back the West Ham star to come out on top in that situation because that’s a key part of his game.

Not only would Michail Antonio back himself to be quicker and stronger than Callum Wilson, but he probably thinks he could even take on many players in the Premier League.

At the start of October, Eddie Howe’s Newcastle, who will be in Champions League action against AC Milan on Tuesday, will travel to the London Stadium.

That’s probably a date that, both Antonio and Wilson, have highlighted as brightly as they can in their diaries.

“You can go shoulder to shoulder with me, if you want,” said Wilson. “You aren’t going to be quicker than me and bully me off the ball, that’s a fact, so don’t even say that, before we get started. 

“I think it will be like when two heavy things collide, then they just cancel each other out. This is what is going to happen.

“This guy is heavy, so you probably aren’t going to put him on his backside. But also, I am strong, so I am not going anywhere, either. I think it will be a good one.

“I am saying you are strong and you are quick. But it’s not 60-40 or 70-30. It’s 50-50, big man.”

Newcastle and West Ham in Europe

European football returns this week, with Newcastle making a long-awaited return to the Champions League, whilst David Moyes’ side will be trying to better their Europa Conference League win from last season.

If Eddie Howe’s side find things tough in the Champions League, then there is every chance that they drop down to the Europa League.

And with West Ham, Brighton and Liverpool already in that competition, then you would back an English side to come out on top in that competition this season.
