Gary Neville agreed with commentator Peter Drury that it was ‘absolute bedlam’ when Gabriel Jesus scored for Arsenal against Manchester United on Sunday.
Just moments before, Declan Rice had just scored Arsenal’s winning goal, so the supporters inside the stadium were still celebrating that dramatic moment.
Then, moments later, Gabriel Jesus was rushing through on goal to add his side’s third, with Neville stating that it was ‘absolute madness’ from the fans once that goal went in, as he told Sky Sports Premier League (03/09/23 at 6:30 pm).
It wasn’t so long ago that the Arsenal faithful were experiencing such scenes against the very same opposition.
At that time, it was Eddie Nketiah who was the hero, but this time, Declan Rice stepped up and delivered in stoppage-time – although, Ian Wright admits there was a ‘dubious’ nature to it all.
Nonetheless, this is what Neville had to say about the Arsenal fans inside the stadium, once that Jesus goal hit the back of the net.
“I hope you are feeling this at home,” said Neville. “It’s absolute madness in this stadium.
“Dalot, who has been fantastic, tries to block the shot, but he gets sat down. Composure and class from Gabriel Jesus. Left foot, onto his right and slots it into that far corner.
“You are right, Peter (Drury). Absolute bedlam in the Emirates.”
After the international break
The Champions League will return to the Emirates after the international break, with Arsenal’s opening game coming up against PSV.
Before that, they will have a trip to Merseyside to face struggling Everton, including a home tie against Tottenham, a League Cup game and a trip to Bournemouth to round-off September.
This is just the start of a cut-throat month of football for Arsenal, as many question how they will manage Premier League football and the Champions League this season.
