Some Arsenal fans are stunned by comments regarding Miguel Azeez – and rightly so.
Azeez left Arsenal to join Portsmouth on a season-long loan this past summer.
Speaking on Tuesday night, Pompey boss Danny Cowley claimed that the Gunners believe this has been a ‘brilliant loan’ for the teenage gem.
He told The News: “They know we are working really, really hard with Miguel and I think they believe this has been a brilliant loan for him to this point. They trust me and know we are desperate for Miguel to be a success here, that’s why we have brought him in.”
Untrue?
Thing is, Arsenal probably don’t think that.
Football London reported on Tuesday that the North Londoners were considering recalling from his loan.
That’s because Cowley has given the player a total of 76 minutes in League One this season – and they’ve played 16 games [1,440 minutes] so far.
With that in mind, it’s hard to see Arsenal being happy with Azeez’s spell in the third tier.
Here’s how some fans of the North London side reacted to Cowley’s comments:
Learning
The good news is that even if this a bad experience, it’s still experience nonetheless.
At this stage of his development, it wouldn’t have been that beneficial for the lad to go back to playing Under-23 football at London Colney.
There’s a feeling at Arsenal that Azeez is above it and ready for the men’s game.
And although that hasn’t proven the case in League One yet, there’s still no denying what a huge talent this lad is.
If Arsenal have to recall him early and find a better fit for him in January, so be it.
But for Cowley to claim that the Premier League side are happy with how things are going seems like a stretch, it has to be said.
