Newcastle United’s Yoshinori Muto has barely featured this season.
Newcastle United’s season came to an end on Sunday afternoon, beating Fulham 4-0 at Craven Cottage in a superb performance.
The Magpies were looking to finish the season in style, and did just that as Jonjo Shelvey and Ayoze Perez had Rafael Benitez’s side 2-0 up at half time.
Fabian Schar headed home the third, and Salomon Rondon capped off what could be his final Newcastle appearance with a close-range fourth.
Newcastle finished the season in 13th place in the Premier League table, but now head off for pre-season, which will be crucial given that Benitez’s future needs to be settled.
Players will be heading off on their post-season holidays now, as well as reflecting on the season just gone, which is just what Yoshinori Muto has done.
Muto was a major signing for Benitez last season, arriving from Mainz as a boost to the Newcastle attack, but he’s barely featured this term.
The Japanese international – earning £54,000-a-week according to Spotrac, the second highest salary at the club – has started just five games all season, and played just over an hour in all competitions in 2019, whilst notching just one goal for the club.
Muto has now taken to Twitter to thank fans for their support with a heartfelt tweet, which included an honest appraisal of his first season at St James’ Park, admitting he didn’t reach his own expectations and should have scored a lot more goals for the Magpies faithful, which he’ll now have to aim for again next season.
