Cooper blames Austin for defeat
Leeds United defender Liam Cooper believes that Rodolph Austin’s miss in their 3-2 defeat to Watford last Saturday was the turning point of the match.
Leeds were 2-1 up at the point when Austin missed a sitter and they were ultimately made to pay for their profligacy, with Watford coming from behind to claim the victory.
It was a disappointing result and Cooper felt that it was obvious to identify the point when Leeds lost their way.
“We couldn’t keep at it for the full 90 minutes and Rudy’s chance was a game-changer,” he said to the Yorkshire Post. “Then a couple of mistakes cost us. But we’ve got to go again on Wednesday now. You can’t look back and get your head down.”
Zayatte targets playoffs
Kamil Zayatte believes that Sheffield Wednesday can still make the play-offs after their impressive win against Middlesbrough at the weekend.
The Owls are still 14 points off the play-off spots, but Zayatte is hoping that a strong run of form could push them into the top six.
“We need to play like this, if we continue playing like this we can finish in the top six before the end of the season,” he said to the Yorkshire Post.
No guarantees
Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough insists that nobody is guaranteed their place in his side’s first-team.
Clough has been famed for his tactical tinkering and he says that nobody is assured of their place in his team.
“Mark [Howard] isn’t certain to start,” Clough said to the Sheffield Star. “Nobody here – Mark, Jose Baxter or whoever – gets that type of assurance from us.”
