1) Leeds United to offer Nile Ranger a contract
Leeds United will offer Nile Ranger a contract on Friday, according to reports.
The striker is out of contract this summer and had been on trial at Elland Road earlier on in the transfer window and he appears to have impressed David Hockaday enough to earn himself a move.
The powerful centre-forward played in League One for Swindon Town last year, where he scored eight goals in 23 games, but it was off the pitch where the problems occurred.
His attitude, which has often come under question throughout his career so far, was put under scrutiny again by Robins manager Mark Cooper and he will need to straighten out his act if he is to make an impression at Leeds.
The hope for Hockaday is that he will and he can bag a striker of undoubted talent on a free.
2) Tom Lees to complete Sheffield Wednesday move
Leeds United defender Tom Lees will complete a free transfer to Sheffield Wednesday, providing he passes a medical today.
The Owls boss, Stuart Gray, revealed last night that the England under 21 international was on the verge of moving to Hillsborough, saying: “A contract is agreed and the terms have been agreed.”
“We are getting a fantastic player on a free transfer and it is now just subject to a medical.”
“He`s played a lot of games for Leeds; he`s a young man at 23, so I don’t think there will be a problem with the medical so we are hoping to announce it on Thursday.”
Lees is a high-earner at Elland Road and was unlikely to be part of the first-team plans last season and was, therefore, allowed to depart.
It is rather surprising, however, that he has been allowed to leave on a free transfer as a player of his age, experience and talent usually commands a fee.
The Whites have wasted no time lining up a replacement for Lees. They are trying to complete a deal for Chesterfield’s Liam Cooper, but the price-tag remains a stumbling block.
The League One side want £1 million for the commanding centre-back, but Leeds are only prepared to pay around half of that and a compromise will need to be made if they are to complete a deal.
3) John Brayford still on Sheffield United wishlist
Sheffield United manager, Nigel Clough, has revealed that he is still trying to sign John Brayford.
Blades concluded a deal which saw Kieron Freeman joined the club from Derby yesterday and many expected them to end their interest in Brayford as a result.
However, Clough is still hoping to strengthen his backline this summer and the Cardiff City defender remains firmly in his plans.
He said: “There’s no update on the situation, but John remains a player we would very much like to bring in.”
“But he remains a Cardiff player. They want to hang on to him, but we’ll keep pestering them.”
4) Doncaster Rovers sign Curtis Main
Doncaster Rovers have announced the signing of Curtis Main from Middlesbrough, as Paul Dickov bolsters his squad ahead of the new season.
Main joins Doncaster as part of the deal which saw James Husband move to the Riverside and he is expected to be one of their key goalscoring threats for the upcoming season.
The youngster was considered a bright prospect when coming through at ‘Boro, but his career has faltered in recent times and the hope is that he will develop further at the Keepmoat.
In joining Rovers, Main becomes Dickov’s third addition in quick succession after Nathan Tyson and Cedric Evina were also brought in recently.
5) Wycombe Wanderers land two Rotherham youngsters
Wycombe Wanderers have concluded a deal to bring Rotherham United youngsters, Nicky Walker and Daniel Rowe to Adams Park, Sky Sports report.
The duo are set to join the League Two side on loan as the Millers are keen on getting them regular first team action.
Wycombe fans already know of Rowe’s quality, after he spent a brief spell at the club towards the back end of last season as they narrowly avoided the drop out of the Football League.
