The Leeds United goalkeeper is back at Elland Road after York City signed a replacement.
York City boss Martin Gray has backed Bailey Peacock-Farrell to become a “top ‘keeper” after his return to Leeds United.
Peacock-Farrell is back at Elland Road after a month-long spell at Bootham Crescent, in which played four times – winning once, conceding nine goals and failing to keep a single clean sheet.
But even though York added goalkeeper Adam Bartlett on a permanent basis this week, Gray told BBC Radio York the Leeds youngster did well for him in difficult circumstances.
“I’m really thankful of the support we’ve had from Leeds,” he said. “I believe he’ll go on to be a top ‘keeper. I think that coming on loan at a young age is an eye-opener, it’s different. He’ll probably go out on loan I’m sure, once or twice more in the near future, and I think that all these little things will only benefit that kid going forward.
“Yeah [it has not been easy for Peacock-Farrell], it’s coming into the real world of football – it’s a different environment. There’s lots of balls on top of you and six-foot-five centre-forwards elbowing you in the face. You’ve got to learn to deal with that because I think once you do go and play in the Championship it’s no different, it’s very in-your-face, rough-and-tumble and aggressive.
“So he’ll benefit from it Bailey, and as I say, he’s been smashing- he’ll go on to do very, very well.”
Peacock-Farrell, who signed a new three-year deal ahead of his temporary move away from Elland Road, will now switch his attention back towards breaking into Thomas Christiansen’s plans.
The Leeds boss has overseen six defeats in seven Championship matches, in which neither of his goalkeepers have properly convinced.
Peacock-Farrell revealed last month he hoped his spell at York would boost his chances of making Northern Ireland’s squad for the 2018 World Cup.
