Newcastle United are currently top of the Championship table.

Crystal Palace midfielder Yohan Cabaye has admitted to Match of the Day magazine he is hoping that Newcastle United make it back into the Premier League.

The French midfielder enjoyed a three-year spell at St. James’ Park, during which he became a firm fan favourite among the Magpies faithful.

He eventually left for Paris Saint-Germain back in 2013 before returning to England with Crystal Palace last year.

Since Cabaye left the North East, things have not gone well for his former team as they were eventually relegated to the Championship last season.

They are on course to make a return to the top flight this year as they current sit top of the division after 14 games and Cabaye says he is hoping to see them return.

“My time at Newcastle was unbelievable. I really loved that club and for me, it’s one of the biggest clubs here [in England]. I really hope that they will come back up,” he told Match of the Day magazine.

It remains to be seen if Newcastle can make a return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

They are doing well at this moment in time, with their current tally of 31 points seeing them three points clear of Brighton and Hove Albion.

It would be unwise for them to think too far ahead at this stage, though, and they would be better served focusing on the short term, starting with their clash against Preston this weekend.
