Yoan Gouffran celebrates after scoring the opening goal for Newcastle
Newcastle United let one of their many French players move on in the summer, with perennial nearly-man Yoan Gouffran making his exit from St James’ Park.
The winger-come-striker joined Newcastle in January of 2013 from Bordeaux and struggled to make a long-term impact at the club, despite glimpses of his commitment and ability.

With that in mind he moved on this summer with Turkish side Goztepe snapping him up on a free transfer.
It was a chance for a fresh start and, considering his versatility, he might have been a good player to keep around after promotion to the Premier League.
Unfortunately it has been a struggle for the Frenchman since making the move East. He has played 16 times for his new team, but has failed to score since making his switch to the club.

In fact, he has only started nine times and has only featured once since the turn of the year so far. Whilst his club are performing reasonably well, sitting in sixth position in the Turkish Super Lig, he has clearly not been showing the sort of form that leaves Newcastle missing his presence – despite their own troubles so far this season.
It certainly seems letting him go was not a huge mistake by Newcastle United.
