Tony Pulis has warned Tottenham on Soccer Saturday (17/10/20 at 1:55 pm) that they are ‘yet to convince’ him that they have the defensive qualities to challenge for the Premier League title.

Spurs are sitting seventh in the Premier League table and can move second with a win against West Ham today – they have conceded five goals so far, only Aston Villa have conceded less from the team’s in the top 10.

It is still early days, but given that Spurs have challenged the top before, they have a serial winner in charge and Gareth Bale is yet to take to the field then it does make them very dangerous going forward.

But former Premier League manager, Pulis isn’t too sure, but he did admit that a coach like Mourinho could be the one to turn it around.

“Well, again that’s the big question [on whether Spurs can keep enough clean sheets to be title contenders],” Pulis told Sky Sports.

“You have a look at their forward players that Mourinho has brought in now and they will certainly score goals without a question of doubt. It’s just about finding that balance.

“The top teams in this league, it’s really, really exciting if you look at the Premier League now. The players that are playing for these teams. Outstanding players. Game-changers. Big question is, can they defend? And defend as well as you need to win the title?

“And Tottenham are still yet to convince me and Mourinho is as good as coach defensively as you will get. If you are betting on anyone then you are betting on him to sort it out.”

Tottenham’s decision to sign Joe Rodon from Swansea on Deadline Day on Friday has allowed them to add more bite to their backline.

And whilst Mourinho still tinkers with his defence, his attack is saying something else.

Even without Bale, they have one of the most in-form attacks in the division and it could be argued that Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son are playing the best football of their careers, at this moment in time.
