Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club announced that Matt Targett had signed a new four-year contract extension.

The 25-year-old has committed himself to the Villans until 2025, after what has been a stunning campaign for the Villa No.18.

Targett has started all 32 of Villa’s Premier League games this season, proving to be a solid, reliable figure at left-back.

His efforts have helped Dean Smith’s side record the third-most clean sheets in the Premier League this season with 14 shutouts.

After he arrived from Southampton in an £11.5 million deal back in 2019, Targett endured a wobbly debut campaign in the Midlands.

However, as some fans state below, he has improved significantly, which is testament to his own character, and the coaching ability of Smith.

In total, he has now made 64 appearances for Villa, scoring two goals while also recording three assists.

At 25 years of age, he is just beginning his prime years.

Between now and 2025, Villa should benefit from Targett’s best footballing years.

It’s important now for Smith to keep Targett, Tyrone Mings, Ezri Konsa, Matty Cash and Emiliano Martinez together.

The five provide a solid base for the Villans, which allows players like Jack Grealish to roam forward and cause chaos.

Let’s see what the Villa fans on Twitter have been saying about the club’s announcement
