Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to celebrate after the club officially announced the arrival of Omar Rekik from Hertha Berlin.
The brother of former Manchester City defender Karim Rekik has signed a professional contract, and will initially join Arsenal’s Under-23 side.
Arsenal’s official announcement describes the 19-year-old as a ‘ball playing’ centre-back who can operate on both sides.
Football London revealed that the Gunners may immediately loan the teenager out to a side in the Bundesliga, but are yet to decide.
Football London also say that Per Mertesacker has promised Rekik the opportunity to join first-team training on a regular basis.

That promise appears to have rung true.
Yesterday, photos emerged of the defender alongside Folarin Balogun in training, who, as we know, has been with the first-team this season.
Elsewhere, the Daily Mail said that Arsenal have paid £900,000 to bring the defensive prospect to north London.

While Rekik presumably won’t have any impact on the first-team for a while, it is encouraging to see Arsenal actively strengthen their youth ranks.
Along with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith-Rowe, Joe Willock, Reiss Nelson and Eddie Nketiah, Rekik could be yet another young gem in Arsenal’s ranks.
Let’s see what the Arsenal fans on Twitter have been saying about his arrival…
