Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react after Duncan Castles revealed that Jose Mourinho is targeting two specific additions to his squad.

Speaking on The Transfer Window podcast, Castles said: ‘His view is they need a centre-back who is quicker over the ground and can compare to Eric Dier or Toby Alderweireld, and is also left-footed to help with the circulation of the play.

‘Also, he would like another centre-midfielder added to the squad. A box-to-box midfielder, someone who can knit the play from back to front.’

It’s clear that, while Spurs have a healthy squad, Mourinho isn’t entirely satisfied by it.

In fairness to the former Real Madrid boss, the two position he’s after are arguably the only two areas in which Tottenham’s squad needs fine tuning.

After the left-footed Jan Vertonghen departed, all four of Mourinho’s centre-back options in Joe Rodon, Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld are right-footed.

There really isn’t much balance in the centre of defence.

Additionally, aside from Moussa Sissoko, Mourinho doesn’t really have a box-to-box centre-midfielder.

The Frenchman is excellent at getting himself around the pitch, but at 31 years of age, he won’t be able to do it for much longer.

Significantly, Mourinho has the spine of his team sorted. The likes of Hugo Lloris, Alderweireld, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Harry Kane form the nucleus of the side, so it’s just about adding the icing on top of the cake.

It’s a wonderful position to be in for the north Londoners. Where the likes of Arsenal need huge squad overhauls, Spurs just need some fine tuning.

Let’s see how the Tottenham fans on Twitter reacted to Castles’ news…
