Former Manchester City striker Shaun Goater has predicted on Twitter that Liverpool will finish third in the Premier League table this season.

Goater, who was at Manchester United as a youth player, made the prediction about Liverpool during their opening Premier League game against Leeds United at Anfield on Saturday evening.

The Reds won the Premier League title last season and will be determined to make it back-to-back triumphs in 2020-21.

Goater does not think that Jurgen Klopp’s side will win the title, and he has actually predicted them to finish outside the top two.

Bold prediction

Liverpool have been superb over the past two seasons. The Reds were head and shoulders above the rest of the teams in 2019-20, and they narrowly missed out on the title to Manchester City in 2018-19.

Chelsea and Manchester United will be determined to challenge Liverpool and City for the title this season, and it will be tough for the Reds, but it is quite a prediction that the Merseyside club will not even finish in the top two this season.

Liverpool’s trophies under Jurgen Klopp

  1. Champions League

    2018/19

  2. UEFA Super Cup

    2019

  3. FIFA Club World Cup

    2019
