Speaking to Marca, Luis Suarez has ruled out ever returning to Europe despite recent links to Aston Villa.
The Uruguayan striker is set to leave Nacional in the coming weeks, and he will, once again, be on the lookout for a new club.
After scoring 11 La Liga goals last season, Suarez is more than good enough to play for a European side in a top league, but the South American believes that he’s done his time in Europe, all-but confirming that a move to Villa isn’t on the cards.
Suarez won’t join Villa
The striker ruled out a return to European football.
“Do you rule out playing in Europe again?” Suarez was asked.
“Yes, because I already did my European career and I left there very proud. I had many options, many, before coming to Nacional, but the meaning of coming to my country was also that: Groningen, Ajax, Liverpool, Barça, Atlético… What better career than that in Europe! For this reason, he could not finish, after Atlético, in another inferior team. That trajectory was perfect. I would have lowered the level and that’s how I ended up at the highest level: Atlético. Hence, it made sense to come to Uruguay, not because it is a minor league, but to close a circle,” The striker replied.
Shame
It’s a real shame to hear that Suarez won’t be returning to Europe or the Premier League before his retirement.
The 35-year-old will undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest strikers in football history, but sadly, we’ve seen him kick his last ball on the European stage.
The World Cup this winter may well be the last time we see Suarez playing at the very top level, and we should savour every moment of what is left of Suarez’s career, because there may not be a player like him for a long time.
