Darren Bent has said that Manchester City fans would rather have Bukayo Saka in their ranks than Riyad Mahrez.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker made this claim on talkSPORT, while discussing the young winger’s contract extension.

Despite Riyad Mahrez being a Premier League legend, Darren Bent believes Manchester City fans would take Bukayo Saka over him.

Darren Bent says Manchester City fans would now prefer Bukayo Saka to Riyad Mahrez

The £60 million (Sky Sports) man continued from his exceptional spell at Leicester City to set the world alight at the Etihad Stadium.

While Saka has had a superior season for Arsenal to Mahrez, many would still rather have the latter in their side without a doubt.

Darren Bent, on the other hand has said that Manchester City fans themselves would prefer Bukayo Saka over Riyad Mahrez in their ranks.

“Yes, because you look at the age and longevity that he’s probably got [Bukayo] Saka. He never gives you any problems, he’s durable, you see the amount of games that he plays.”

After briefly explaining why Manchester City supporters would side with Bukayo Saka over Riyad Mahrez, pundit Darren Bent went on to suggest that the Premier League champions could target him in the future.

“Yeah, it’s massive news for Arsenal. And it’s quite clever, certainly after the disappointment of losing the league which is unfortunate after being so close with Manchester City. You needed a bit of good news, and the fact that he’s come out now and decided to announce it now that he’s signed a new contract, that is huge for Arsenal Football Club.”

“Given Arsenal continue to raid Man City for signings, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they decided to try and return the favour one day.”

Bukayo Saka is the better player currently

While Riyad Mahrez has been an exceptional player over the years, his form has dropped off since last season, as Darren Bent is right about him likely being the preference amongst Manchester City fans if they could take either of them.

Saka has a long way to go to reach Mahrez’s level but that is more inclined towards the latter at his absolute best.

The Algerian icon has declined, whereas the England international is only getting started.

At just 21 years of age and that too under Pep Guardiola’s guidance, Bukayo Saka would only improve exponentially.
