Crystal Palace did manage to secure the signing of Dylan Reid – who rejected Celtic in the summer – despite the lack of an official announcement.

What’s the story?

Well, Stephen Robinson – Manager of St Mirren – told Sky Sports that Reid was set to undergo a medical with Crystal Palace on deadline day, after turning down a summer move to Celtic.

The 48-year-old said: “Crystal Palace have conducted themselves very well throughout the transfer, which has to be credited. Fingers crossed that both boys get through their medicals.”

However, there has been silence on the matter ever since Robinson shared these comments – until now.

One concerned Crystal Palace fan asked Matt Woosnam of The Athletic if the deal for Reid actually went through, given the fact the south Londoners are yet to officially announce the signing, nor have St Mirren.

Woosnam quickly eased fears from the Selhurst Park faithful, answering “yes” on his official Twitter account.

Interestingly, Woosnam added that a deal for another exciting youngster also went through, as Crystal Palace managed to sign Franco Umeh from Cork City.

You can see what The Athletic’s Crystal Palace correspondent posted on Twitter below.

The signing of Reid in particular represents a coup for Crystal Palace, as The Sun believe Bayern Munich and Benfica also wanted to sign the Scotland Under-19 international.

Crystal Palace beat Celtic to a gem in Dylan Reid

While the Selhurst Park faithful probably shouldn’t expect to see Reid in the first-team anytime soon, his arrival still represents exciting business for the Eagles.

Fending off the likes of Celtic, Bayern Munich and Benfica is no small feat, and with Crystal Palace now boasting a state-of-the-art £20m academy in the heart of south London, the facilities are there to help Reid fulfil his vast potential.

Patrick Vieira has already placed his trust in youngsters such as Tyrick Mitchell, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and David Ozoh, so there is no reason why Reid can’t become an important player in SE25.
