David James has said on Stadium Astro that Liverpool should sell Mohamed Salah in the summer transfer window.

The former Liverpool goalkeeper believes that Salah is becoming the focal point for the Reds and is now the main goal threat for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

James believes that last season’s Premier League champions should sell Salah this summer.

According to the pundit, it would then allow Diogo Jota to slot into the front-three and form a new dynamic with Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

James said about Salah on Stadium Astro: “He might be second in the Golden Boot running, but I think Liverpool actually played better without Salah, and the opportunity for Liverpool to maybe cash in on Salah.

“Jota then naturally fits into that front-three, Firmino gets more freedom, arguably, and then Liverpool have a new dynamic upfront rather than what seems a reliance, or what has been a reliance, on Salah’s goals.”

When asked again about selling Salah, the pundit said: “Yes, I would, I would do it now. This is not about Mo Salah not being a good player. His goal record speaks for itself.”

Most Liverpool fans will be astounded by James’s suggestion.

Salah scored 22 goals in the Premier League this season, just one fewer than Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.

The Egypt international forward is a goal machine.

With Firmino and Mane struggling to score goals regularly, Salah has been absolutely key in Liverpool finishing in the Premier League top four.

Liverpool manager Klopp himself has acknowledged it.

Firmino does not tend to score too many goals, while Mane has had a disappointing season.

There is no need for Liverpool to break the front-three just because of one bad season.

Jota is a very good attacking player who has chipped in with important goals and can be a good option on the substitutes’ bench.

Of course, if Liverpool can cash in on Salah and bring in someone like Kylian Mbappe, then sure, they should go for it.

But the Reds should not sell the Egyptian without having a better player in line to replace him.
