Gary Neville has taken to Twitter to make a bold claim involving Harry Kane, after being asked a question about Tottenham’s No.10.
The Sky Sports pundit was asked if he thinks the 27-year-old will beat Alan Shearer’s Premier League record.
After 441 Premier League games, the Newcastle legend scored 260 goals, which still stands as the all-time goalscoring record in the competition.
After 238 Premier League games, Kane is currently on 162, which is mightily impressive.
In response to the question, Neville said that he thinks the 53-cap England international will do it, but on one condition.
We can’t help but agree.
If Kane’s ankles hadn’t caused him problems over the last few seasons, this discussion would probably be on more people’s lips.
He’s only 98 goals away from equalling the record, which might sounds like a lot, but seems extremely doable for Kane given his unerring consistency.
The £200,000-a-week Tottenham talisman has scored at least 20 goals in four of the last seven Premier League seasons, and would make that five if he gets one more this term – he’s currently on 19.
Should he – or when he – gets this one goal, that would be 100 goals in just five campaigns right there.
At 27, Kane is right in the middle of his prime, and has the footballing brain to continue into his thirties when his pace will slowly escape him.
If anyone can do it, Kane can.
