Tim Vickery has said on Sky Sports News (12:38pm, August 6, 2021) that back in Colombia, Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Yerson Mosquera is considered a better player than Tottenham Hotspur’s Davinson Sanchez.

Wolves have signed Mosquera from Atletico Nacional in the summer transfer window.

The 20-year-old central defender made only a handful of appearances for the Atletico first team.

Tottenham defender Sanchez also started his professional club football career at Atletico before moving to Ajax in 2016.

The 25-year-old centre-back moved to Spurs in 2017 and has made over 100 appearances for the North London club so far.

South American football expert Vickery said about Mosquera on Sky Sports News (12:38pm, August 6, 2021): “He is another centre-back who I think is very, very interesting. He comes from Atletico Nacional.

“It is the same club that produced Davinson Sanchez, who went onto Ajax and then of course to Tottenham.

“Back in Medellín, they think that Mosquera is a better version of Davinson Sanchez. He is quick, he is aggressive, he is class, he is proactive.”

Encouraging for Wolves fans

Sanchez is a good defender, but he is five years older than his Colombian compatriot Mosquera.

Mosquera is one for the future and may not be able to start regularly for Wolves this season when everyone is fit.

However, Vickery’s comments suggest that Wolves have signed a very promising and exciting young player who can only get better.

It could take Mosquera a while to adapt and adjust to English football and to establish himself in the first team.

The signs are certainly encouraging, especially after you read Vickery’s comments and analysis.
