The Tottenham Hotspur defender has been linked with Southampton.
According to a report from the Daily Star, Southampton are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur right-back Kieran Trippier this summer for £5million. But if the former Burnley man does leave White Hart Lane, is DeAndre Yedlin good enough to replace him?
Trippier acted as back-up to Kyle Walker last season, featuring 19 times in all competitions but only six times in the Premier League.
That would have come as quite a shock to the system after he was an ever-present the previous year at Burnley, and at 25 Trippier will be desperate to play regular first-team football.
For that reason alone it would be no surprise to see him move on, yet that would leave Yedlin as second-choice right-back. So would he cope?
On recent evidence, the answer is yes. After all, the USA international enjoyed a fine loan spell at Sunderland last term, getting over a shaky start to end the campaign with 25 starts (23 of which were in the league).
Yedlin played a significant role in Sunderland’s successful relegation battle and if Trippier does move on this summer Tottenham have a more than able deputy who deserves to build on his solitary Spurs appearance to date.
His pace would go down a storm in North London and it is unfair to write him off too soon, but much will depend on the future of Trippier with one or the other likely to leave.
