Yannick Bolasie has told the club’s website that it was ‘a dream’ to meet his boyhood hero Thierry Henry when the Frenchman visited the club’s training ground this week.

Arsenal’s record goalscorer was in Liverpool to prepare for his punditry appearance on Sky Sports’ new Friday night football programme.

Bolasie, who is preparing to face former club Crystal Palace this weekend, has spoken of his admiration for the 39-year-old, and how the Arsenal legend even had a few words of advice for him.

Speaking to the club’s website at the Finch Farm training ground, he said: “I’ve watched most of his goals and what he’s done mostly through his career. It’s a great honour.

“I was asking him about some of his goals, some of the unbelievable stuff – I just asked him what was his thought process. Basically he broke it down to me which is gonna be my secret. Definitely some advice to take on board. To hear what he’s had to say has been refreshing.

“I used to support Arsenal. When he came through, he didn’t start off the way everyone thought he should have started off. But then when he added goals to his game, he was literally unplayable. He used to always peel out onto the left and come in and shoot. It’s a dream come true meeting him. Words can’t explain.”

Bolasie has even admitted that his adoption of the number 14 jersey was as a direct homage to his hero, claiming that it ‘reminded him of Henry straight away’ and that he is now in a team which can allow him to ‘add more goals to his game’.

Everton welcome Crystal Palace to Goodison Park this weekend as they seek to bounce back from successive defeats to Bournemouth and Norwich City. Bolasie, the £25 million summer signing from Selhurst Park, will be looking to bag his first goal for his new club against the side with whom he spent four seasons.

The Toffees have not beaten Crystal Palace at Goodison Park since April 2005, when 16-year-old James Vaughan became the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history during a 4-0 rout.
