Yannick Bolasie has paid tribute to Everton fans for the patience they showed in him throughout his 12-month injury ordeal.
Fit-again Yannick Bolasie has reflected on his “second debut” for Everton after making his long-awaited return in Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with West Bromwich Albion.
The 28-year-old winger made his first Premier League appearance for Everton in over a year following a 12-month battle with a serious knee injury.
Bolasie, who joined the Toffees for £30 million from Crystal Palace 18 months ago, played for an hour as Sam Allardyce’s side were held by West Brom at The Hawthorns.
And the Congolese attacker has thanked fans of the Merseyside club for their patience in him.
“It was all a surprise for me and it was the best Christmas present to be honest, apart from that we didn’t win,” he told Everton TV.
“I’ll call it my second debut for Everton against West Brom, and I want to thank the fans for sure.
“They’ve been great with me throughout the year. Obviously personally I’ve played down the injury massively, it was career-threatening but to be back where I am today is incredible.”
A fully fit Bolasie can be a huge asset to Everton.
He was only starting to show what he could do in a blue shirt when the injury struck on December 4 of last year, and Toffees fans will surely be excited to see him back on the flank.
