Everton winger Yannick Bolasie has come out to defend Jordan Pickford, after the England goalkeeper received some criticism from the press on Monday.
Pickford was part of the England team which lost 2-0 to Belgium earlier this week and there were some suggestions that he should have done better with Youri Tielemens’ long-range effort, which resulted in the first goal.
The Daily Star wrote their match report under the headline: “In a PICKle.”
But Bolasie thinks those claims are wide of the mark, and that the £30 million Everton goalkeeper (BBC Sport) is taking on board some unfair criticism now.
Pickford has had his fair share of negative headlines recently so he is unlikely to be too perturbed by the recent attention.
However, the England stopper will be looking to change opinions on his performances sooner rather than later.
Pickford has been out of sorts for Everton for months now, and is facing serious pressure to keep his place for both club and country.
Pickford could feature again for England tomorrow, when they take on Iceland.
