Everton winger Yannick Bolasie has told The Guardian that his former Crystal Palace teammates raved about manager Sam Allardyce.

Over a month after the sacking of Ronald Koeman, Everton moved to appoint Allardyce as their new manager last month, handing the 63-year-old the reins until 2019.

The Toffees have made a fine start to life under Allardyce, as he remains unbeaten in his first six games in charge, claiming three wins and three draws so far.

Whilst Allardyce will be delighted with how he has steadied the ship, having claimed draws against Liverpool and Chelsea, some are concerned about a lack of goals.

0-0 stalemates with Chelsea and West Brom have left some Everton fans frustrated, and worrying that Allardyce’s style of football will be a little too negative.

The signing of a new striker – with Besiktas star Cenk Tosun on the way – should help that, but winger Yannick Bolasie has now moved to defend his new boss.

Bolasie has told The Guardian that he thinks Everton are defending much better under Allardyce, and there is plenty of time to find the right balance between defence and attack.

Bolasie added that Allardyce has been ‘great’ so far, and revealed that he heard ‘nothing but good reviews’ from his former teammates who worked with Allardyce at Crystal Palace last season.

“He’s got us defending much better and he will probably say it’s now about the transition and how we want to play forwards,” said Bolasie. “We were good going forwards before but not so good defending as a team. Now we’re defending really well but the transition hasn’t been as good as we want it to be. But he’s been great.”

“I saw what he did at Crystal Palace and from my old team mates there I’ve had nothing but good reviews,” he added.
