Yannick Bolasie scored his first goal for Everton against Burnley last weekend.
Yannick Bolasie has told the Daily Mail that Everton boss Ronald Koeman has been demanding more from him in recent weeks.
Everton have failed to win any of their last five matches, and Koeman has been keen to see his side be more incisive.
The Dutch boss has been encouraging Everton’s attacking midfielders to start attempting to hit the back of the net more often, to take some of the goalscoring burden off Romelu Lukaku.
And Bolasie did exactly what was asked of him by Koeman, by scoring in Everton’s 2-1 defeat to Burnley last weekend.
“It is something we always work on in training, so when I got into that position I knew what I wanted to do,” he said. “It gives you a lift in confidence and you start doing things that you are used to doing. Confidence is a massive thing in my game.
“I’ve not been thinking about it [getting off the mark]. Since I have been here, I have been creating chances and I am happy doing that.
“But as the manager says, he wants a little bit more from the attackers around Romelu Lukaku. At Burnley I have scored, so that is a start.”
Bolasie’s goal against Burnley was well taken, as he barged Lukaku out of the way, before drilling a shot across Burnley stopper Tom Heaton and into the far corner of the net.
It is the first time Bolasie has hit the back of the net for Everton since he moved to the Merseyside club from Crystal Palace during the summer transfer window.
Ultimately, though, the strike counted for little – as Everton slipped to a disappointing defeat at Turf Moor.
The Toffees are now in sixth place in the Premier League table, with their next match coming against West Ham United at the weekend.
