Yannick Bolasie has responded after the Premier League confirmed all of this weekend’s fixtures would be postponed including Bolasie’s old sides Everton against West Ham, and Crystal Palace against Manchester United.
The postponement comes after the death of Queen Elizabeth II was confirmed in a statement published by Buckingham Palace. She died aged 96 on Thursday evening, surrounded by her family at Balmoral.
In light of Her Majesty’s death, the Premier League have come to a decision. They have decided to postpone all Premier League games this weekend – which has caused some criticism from pundits, players and supporters.
Many are of the opinion that playing the games would have been the best way to pay tribute to The Queen. However, the Premier League have decided to cancel this weekend’s fixtures, despite an already-packed schedule.
With the World Cup this winter, games are coming thick and fast – especially for those in European competition. There are also England fixtures this month. Palace and Everton, among others, will now rest – and Bolasie reacted.
Bolasie has responded as Everton and Palace fixtures postponed
Bolasie does make a point. It is understandable that the Premier League have decided to show their respect to The Queen and her Family by postponing fixtures in light of her death – it would have been a good way to show respect.
Fans, players, pundits and the like would have been able to mark her tragic passing in a way she loved – sport. But instead, fans will now have to wait until the next round of games. The Queen’s funeral may see those cancelled, too.
Everton were preparing to take on West Ham and might have fancied their chances at Goodison Park. West Ham were in action on Thursday night. Palace too, given United also featured on Thursday night in the Europa League.
