Ainsley Maitland-Niles is reportedly close to completing a loan move to Roma from Arsenal. Fabrizio Romano reported as much on Twitter, and Yannick Bolasie has responded to the Italian’s Tweet, on Tuesday.
Maitland-Niles, 24, has only been afforded 11 appearances in all competitions this season. It comes after going on loan to West Brom last term, unwilling to play in Arsenal’s defence – preferring midfield.
The versatile England international is some way down the pecking order. Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey are first choice, while Albert Sambi Lokonga is first reserve. Mo Elneny is also an option in the middle.
That has seemingly convinced Maitland-Niles to jump ship this month. Jose Mourinho has seemingly got his man, but Romano reports that Arsenal will only allow him to go – without a permanent clause included in the deal.
Bolasie reacts: Is Roma move a good one for Arsenal star Maitland-Niles?
Maitland-Niles has the potential to be a really good midfielder. While many argue he might actually be a better full-back than he is a midfielder, his desire to play in midfield is unwavering. Roma need another body.
What should convince Maitland-Niles is Tammy Abraham and Chris Smalling’s form at Roma. Both have gone over to the Stadio Olimpico and rejuvenated their careers – after stalling at Man United and Chelsea.
Bolasie, who is currently playing for Turkish SuperLig side Caycuk Rizespor, is renowned as an Arsenal fan. He reacted to the news that Maitland-Niles is set to join Roma on loan – hopeful it can help him.
