Everton’s long-term injury absentee Yannick Bolasie has told the club’s official website that he is happy where he is at in terms of his recovery.

The 28-year-old is to be assessed this week according to the website, as he nears a year on the sidelines after suffering the knee problem last December against Manchester United at Goodison Park.

The former Crystal Palace ace has reiterated his desire to come back stronger than ever before, and help his Everton teammates who continue to struggle on the pitch under interim boss David Unsworth.

Bolasie declared that he is “getting there” in terms of his recovery but failed to give a definitive date on when he will officially return to the first-team set-up.

“I tend to distance myself [when I’m injured] but now that I am getting there, I am starting to watch and go to games again and I feel like I am close, and that is the main thing,” said Bolasie.

“At the end of last season it was hard because I was far away, so seeing a game and thinking I wanted to be out there… it was tough. The whole package has come together, so I’m buzzing, really, and happy with where I am at.

“I want to come back feeling refreshed and hungry.”

Before sustaining his injury just a matter of months after his £30million move from Palace to Merseyside, Bolasie made 15 appearances in all competitions for the Toffees, scoring once and laying on four assists.

Everton now face Watford on Sunday in an important clash as Unsworth looks put a run of five straight losses behind them, with three points enough to take them out of the bottom three and into 14th position if West Ham, West Brom, Swansea and Stoke drop points.
